Summer spent the first 10 years of her career as a respiratory therapist in acute hospital settings such as: trauma, cardiac and pulmonary Intensive Care Units, Pediatric Intensive Care, Neonatal Intensive Care, Pulmonary lab, Trauma team, Code team, and in managerial charge positions. She served as the Respiratory Consultant for Devon Gables 2009-2013. This entailed doing on site assessments for possible admissions, doing clinical education for appropriate admissions & educating the nursing staff.
She has served on the Respiratory Council, the Clinical Practice Committee, and as a department preceptor in hospital settings.
Summer taught for 9 years at Pima Community College as a clinical instructor. She has served as the director of Foothills Rehab’s respiratory department since June 2013.
